Today's the day you get a bunch of new tunes to preview all week and have your say as to which was the best! Last week the majority spoke and said that Leona Lewis was the best with her new single 'Bleeding Heart.'

Take That - Rule The World

If you haven't seen the movie 'Stardust' yet you need to go see what you're missing. This is by far one of the best movies released this year! It has everything a movie should have, great acting, adventure, humour and romance. Take That have recorded the theme song which strangely enough isn't even on the soundtrack. I first heard the song when I saw the movie in the theater. I stayed in my seat through the credits so I could hear the song and boy Take That did not dissapoint. This song will be their new single in the Uk when it is released at the end of October. Smells like another number 1 for Take That

McFly - The Heart Never Lies

When McFly hit the scene back in 2004 I brushed them off saying they were just a cheap version of 'Busted.' But with every single and every album McFly shows that they are here to stay and are doing their own thing. Their songs are supremely catchy and combine the best of pop and rock to create their hit singles. This new one has to be one of their best yet! I'm VERY impressed. This is definitely an album I'm going to buy. The only album I ever bought from the boys was 'Wonderland' which is fantastic if you haven't heard it yet. I actually have an old song from McFly that I LOVE, maybe I should do a McFly post?

Alizee - Mademoiselle Juliette

2 weeks ago I posted 50/60 from Alizee thinking this was her new single. Well her record label has just released a press release stating that Mademoiselle Juliette is going to be the first single from her 3rd album. This is her first album since parting ways with Mylenne Farmer and her old record label. The song isn't bad... but she should have stayed with Mylenne if you ask me.

Spice Girls - Official Megamix

If I didn't know any better I wouldn't even know that the Spice Girls are back together! Since announcing their reunion things have been quiet from the Spice Camp. Melanie C is releasing a new single in the Uk, Melanie B is on 'Dancing With The Stars' in the USA, Baby Spice had her baby and through it all the girls are going to be starting to rehearse for their world tour very soon. Speaking of which ticket information STILL hasn't been released. Rumour has it that an announcement will be made by October 1st. They had better hurry up. The tour kicks off in Vancouver (My Home!) on December 2nd!

The Men Of Sweden

So I've been sitting on some of these songs since I went to Sweden earlier this year and I'm finally gonna put them on here. I've already posted about some of the best Men of Sweden already... artists like Martin Stenmark, The Attic, Erik Segerstedt, Ola, Danny, marcus Fagerval, Magnus Carlsson, Mathais Holmgren, Ander Johansson and more... Here are some of the other "Men of Sweden" for you to enjoy :)

Sebastian - Words and Violence

Most of you will know what I'm talking about when I mention Melodifestivalen. Earlier this year Sebastian took part in the competition and made it all the way to the finals with 'When The Night Comes Falling.' He was a runner up in Swedish Idol in 2006 losing out to Agnes. He's released 2 albums and both of them have been immensely successful in Sweden going Gold with sales of over 30'000 copies. 'Words & Violence' was his first single from his second album, before he entered Melodifestivalen. It peaked at number 3 in the singles chart.

Jimmy Jansson has a long past with Melodifestivalen. having entered back in 2002 with his band 'The Poets.' After the band broke up Jimmy went solo in 2004 after entering the TV show 'Fame Factory.' Since then he's released 3 solo albums and competed in Melodifestivalen 2 more times in 2005 and earlier this year with his single 'Amanda.' To date he's released 7 top 40 singles in Sweden. He has to be one of my favorite Swedish male acts his albums are FANTASTIC. I reccomend you pick up his latest album 'San E Jag.'

Ville Niskanen - Disco Dancing

So I don't know much about this guy. From what I can find out he was a contestant on Swedish Idol. When I told my Swedish friend that I bought his single he laughed at me. So from what I can tell this guy is really just a joke... think William Hung? The song is catchy though... so think of it as a guilty pleasure. His music reminds me of Danny for some reason. BTW. I keep mixing up Danny and Ola! It's driving me crazy.

Magnus Backlund - Say Your Goodbye

The 2nd half of the AMAZING 'Fame' that every good blog on the web has posted about. While Magnus backlund doesn't have the charisma of Jessica Andersson he has at least delivered a solo album! It seems like there is definitely a public demand for the return of 'Fame.' So we can only hope that Jessica will agree to it, I'm sure she's the one that is holding out. Magnus and Jessica met while filming Fame Factory, the show that Magnus won! In 2006 Magnus entered Melodifestivalen solo with 'The Name Of Love.'

I still have more Swedish "Men" to write about but you'll have to wait until another time for them.

It's Too Late To Apologize...

I never would have thought that I would ever in my life be posting a Timbaland song on my blog... and yet here we are. Sure he's done some good songs for other artists... but I never had any interest in listening to anything by him before.

My friend sent this to me last night and said I 'HAD' to hear this song. As soon as I saw Timbaland I rolled my eyes. But after the first 30 seconds I was singing a different tune.

This song is really really good! It's not in your face R & B. It's just good, pop, modern and funky sounding ballad.

Whether he's producing music for others or himself, Timbaland definitely seems to have the midas touch.

So all of my favorite blogs out there have taken time to post about the brilliance that is Shirley Clamp. So I'm sure everyone has these tracks now... but I've always wanted to post about Shirley... so now it's my turn!

For a time Shirley was the queen of Schlager! But recently she seems to have turned her back on glitter and wind machines and opted instead to release a bunch of sappy ballads.

I have a feeling that Shirley still has some Schlager left in her and that we'll be hearing it in good time.

But I also say that as great as she is at the stompin' schlager hits... she sure can deliver a power ballad! So today you get the best of both worlds... (Arliga Bla is one of my all time favorite songs BTW)

Helena Paparizou - 3 Is A Magic Number

Last month I posted about Helena and how shocked I am that she hasn't had more international success. She's released some AMAZING singles and has a great voice and stage presence! So when I saw that she had a new single I couldn't wait to hear it! Now that I've heard it I honestly don't know what to think. At first listen I thought it had to be a joke. But I've been listening to it a bit more and as weird as it is... it's actually sorta cool! Definitely unique! What do you think?

Leona Lewis - Bleeding Heart

Leona Lewis won last seasons X-Factor in the Uk and after her debut single she went into seclusion to record her debut album in the USA. They've held back until they were ready to launch her new single and album. This is her first single from the album and It's not bad although it sounds a little dated? Like the kind of song you would have listened to back in 1995? It's good... but not the kind of single to launch an international career from. It's a pretty song from a girl with a pretty voice... But I can't help but think she's a little overrated.

Westlife - Home

The biggest dissapointment of all is the new single from Westlife. One of my all time favorite bands suprises no one by releasing ANOTHER cover. Now I really don't mind covers! But Westlife have really taken it too far this time. First off they've destroyed Michael Buble's version of this track and dumbed it down and turned it into a predictable single with the same old tired Westlife format. I don't even know what to say right now. Let's home the album is MUCH better than this disgusting excuse for a new single. I'm actually quite mad after hearing this song... I need to go listen to 'My Love.' You shouldn't cover a song unless you can make it better... and in this case they get an 'F.' So just to make up for it... here is the ORIGINAL!

Get Up And Dance!

Have you ever downloaded a song and never actually listened to it? I was going through my computer yesterday and discovered I had downloaded some Gina G songs from her 2006 album and never actually listened to them! I was pretty suprised when I added them to my iPod and discovered they were actually pretty good!

Australian born, Gina G hit the big time back in 2006 when she was selected to represent the United Kingdom at the 1996 Eurovision Song Contest. Despite only placing 8th overall at Eurovision the track ended up at #1 in the Uk. The song then exploded around the world even reaching #12 in the USA.

Despite a successful debut album and multiple singles Gina G dissapeared from the spotlight. It wasn't until 2005 that Gina G was back in the spotlight as she entered "Making Your Mind Up" in the Uk. Although she didn't get the chance to go to Eurovision again she used the appearance to launch her new album - "Get Up And Dance" which was available exlusively from her website.

Currently Gina G has put her career on hold as she is pregnant with her second child... but since most people didn't even know she had released a 2nd album... you can download some of my favorite tracks from it below.

The End Of The Road...

On December 26th 2001, one of the most successful acts in Uk Pop History announced that they were calling it a day. They are one of the few bands who can truly say that they went out on top.

Their Greatest Hits album had gone number one and they had just finished their massive Greatest Hits tour across the Uk.

Despite only hitting number 1 twice in the Uk, Steps hold a number of records in the Uk. In fact they had 14 conecutive top 5 hits. An accomplishment only beat by the Beatles and Oasis. Their debut single '5, 6, 7, 8' holds a record for being one of the highest selling singles ever NOT to hit the top ten! In 2000 Steps received a special BRIT award for being the Best Selling British Live Act. In fact Steps were one of the biggest touring acts the Uk has ever seen and even hold a Guiness World Record to prove it.

It's been almost 6 years since Steps split up. With the trend of bands re-forming today many fans have asked if Steps are planning to reunite any time soon. Most recently Fave has spoken about the rumours and confirmed that the five of them have been approached to do a reunion. Unfortunately for fans like myself she says that each of them are busy with their own projects and that the time isn't right.

It seems even though 6 years have passed the fans still can;t get enough of their infectious singles and dance routines. Recently I held a poll - The Battle of The B-Sides. It turned out it wasn't much of a battle at all as you voted Steps - Just Like The First Time as the overwhelming winner!

So I'd like everyone to pull out your old singles... go through your mp3 list... practice your dance routines while you play some Steps and remember the good times.

On and On Your Voice Is Calling...

How would you feel... if one day you were approached by a producer who said he wanted to help you record a single that he thought could be an international hit single?

You record the song and the producer insists on recording a trance inspired dance version of the song. You finally give in and agree but only if you can also record a ballad piano version of the track as well.

So you record the track and before you know it's being released across the world, hitting number 1 in countries all over the globe. But even though you're singing lead vocals... your name is nowhere to be found on the song. Everywhere you go to promote the song people are asking who you are. Even in the video your face is blurred out.

Can't believe it would happen? It did and you probably know the song I'm talking about even if you don't know the singer.

The song is Heaven. The artist credited? Dj Sammy and Yanou. After the initial release of the track the labels were changed in some countries to ensure that Do was added as the lead vocalist. But the damage was already done... she was constantly asked if she was 'Dj Sammy.'

The real talent behind the song was the singer 'Do' (pronounced Doe) She's a dutch singer who has released two successful albums in Holland and had a string of hit singles.

I posted a song of hers for my Valentines post earlier this year and I'm following it up with another of her early singles.

If anyone knows anything more about her I'd love to know a bit more and pehaps get my hands on some of her songs.

New Music Monday

So I'm going to make this short and sweet today...

The artists I'm about to post have given me some of my all time favorite songs... J'ai Pas 20 Ans from Alizee and 2 albums worth of tracks from BWO... but I'm a little dissapointed by these new tracks from them. They're good! But I had higher expectations?

Alizee - Fifty Sixty

This retro inspired track is a little different from anything she's done before but I don't know if it's got as much hit potential as her previous singles. I also think this is the first album she's done without Mylene Farmer?

BWO - Let It Rain

I'm a little behind with this track... but i've only JUST downloaded it. I have to admit I was really looking forward to their new material... but feel a little let down by this one. It's really nice and fluffy. I guess I wanted something a little more hard hitting. From what I understand they also released a dance track as a double a side with this track. So maybe I'll like that one better. I do seem to like this one the more I listen to it though... it's just not as good as 'Conquering America' or 'Sunshine In The Rain' for example.

It's that time of year again...

Artists are going to be filling record stores with brand new singles and albums over the next 3 months. New Sugababes, Britney Spears, Girls Aloud, Celine Dion, Shayne Ward and The Spice Girls to name a few...

And just on the horizon... we have a BRAND NEW studio album from WESTLIFE! I've posted about Westlife briefly on this blog before and you can expect to hear a lot more about them in the future as they aer one of my all time favorite bands. I was lucky enough to see them live on their Face to Face Tour in 2006 in the Uk!

For now I'll tease you all with this... The new album was JUST finished this month! The band are going to be recording their new video in September. The album will feature some of the biggest song writters in the world of pop... Anyone know Rami and Jorgen Elofsson?

Until I get my hands on their new single this will have to do.

This song should have been a single if you ask me... it's got everything you could ask for! Great harmonies, it builds as it goes along until an explosive climax!

One of the best things about having your own blog is that you can post anything you like!

I LOVE being able to share my favorite songs and introduce people to songs that didn't find the audience that they deserved sometimes.

This is one of those songs.

Most of you have heard of Vanessa Carlton before. She's done the vocals on a bunch of songs over the past few years. She is mostly known for her debut single 'Ordinary Day' and for her duet with the Counting Crows on 'Big Yellow Taxi.'

But my all time favorite song for her is probably the one that got her dropped from her record label. 'White Houses' was the first single from her second album 'Harmonium' in 2004. The record was a commercial failure and it was the only single from the album before she parted ways with the record company.

Watching her perform this song live with just her playing piano and singing is amazing. it's dissapointing that a song this good didn't acheive any real success. Although the song did go Number 1 in Taiwan!

So I don't actually know too much about this group.

I discovered them back when I was watching the 1997 World Music Awards. They came out and sang "Je Te Donne." I actually recorded the show on my VCR and I used to watch their performance over and over again.

Recently I bought the single on eBay and I love the song today just as much as I did 10 years ago!

The band is 'Worlds Apart,' they are a multi-national group who achieved most of their success in the Uk and France. If you follow Uk pop at all you'll recognize Nathan Moore as Lisa Scott-Lee's ex manager.

Like I said this song is fantastic, It's a cover very famous french track by Jean Jacques Goldman. Half the lyrics are in English and half in French.

You won't regret this download!

Back in 1999 our local radio station here in Vancouver, BC started playing a song from an unknown swedish singer, Bosson; that song was - We Live. I've always wondered how a small Swedish singer got his track played on Canadian radio before he ever hit it big!

Bosson actually ended up having one hit single in North America when his track "One In A Million" from his second album was featured in the film 'Miss Congeniality.' The song ended up hitting top ten in various European countries and Asia. In June Bosson released his 4th studio album featuring his version of Magnus Carlssons - Live Forever.

This was released in 2002 and wasn't successful - hitting #40 in Sweden. But this is actually my all time favorite Bosson song. I've actually never found anyone else that likes this song! So if you like it leave a comment below so I know I'm not the only one in the world that loves this track.

The Sugababes are back!

This is the band that just keeps on giving! The Sugababes have been around since 1998 and have since released 18 hit singles and 5 hit albums around the world. The Sugababes have had more top ten hits with original songs than any group since The Supremes, Destiny's Child & Bananarama. They have sold over 9 million albums, scoring succes across Europe and Asia... with number one hits in the Uk, Ireland, Poland, Denmark, Austria and New Zealand. They were the first pop group to ever play the Glastonbury Festival.

I have seen the Sugababes 3 times live now and they are one of the most talented live acts around.

Despite all the success you may be suprised to hear that the band almost didn't make it. During a promotional tour for their debut album, founding member Siobhan Donaghy left the group amongst fights between the girls and clinical depression. In 2001 it was announced that Heidi would be the replacement. But despite a top 40 record in the Uk and peaking at number 7 in Germany, their record label was not impressed. The Sugababes were dropped from London records in 2001.

The group had already begun working on their second album and soon were signed to Island Records. When the new single 'Freak Like Me' was released in 2002 it went Number 1 in both the Uk and Ireland. (I bet London records must be kicking themselves now!)

From then on everything success has followed the girls everywhere. 'Round Round' was their second number one in the Uk and the album debuted at number 2. The success continued with the groups 3rd album - 'Three' with another number one single and 3 top ten singles in the Uk.

On October 16th 2005, the girls had their first number 1 album. On that same day, the girls celebrated being number one on the albums, singles and download charts all at the same time.

But just when things seemed perfect... the problems started again. On Dec. 21st 2005, Mutya announced she also was leaving the band. With only one original member remaining it was announced the Sugababes would carry on with a new member who would help carry on taking the Sugababes brand of music forward.

After a successful greatest hits album, tour and duet with Girls Aloud the girls are back with a brand new single 'About U Now.' The track isn't very typically Sugababes and it is at the same time. I wasn't sure what I thought about it at first but I've decided that I LOVE it! I think it might even be one of my favorite Sugababes singles!

It Should Have Been A Single...

In case you have been living under a rock somewhere recently you'd know that Darren Hayes (Formerly of Savage Garden) is about to release his 3rd album. From what I've heard so far, including the new track that was just posted by PopPosterGirl, the album is going to be one of the best pop albums of the year.

The last time Darren released a solo album was back in 2004. The album 'The Tension and the Spark' will go down as one of the best pop albums of all time. If you don't have this album, you MUST go out and look for it as soon as possible.

The album was a huge departure for Darren. Instead of the guaranteed radio friendly hits his fans were expecting, we got an electronic based and was a very emotional album. While the album didn't sell as well as his previous album, the album earned Darren the strongest critical praise of his career.

On Aug. 20th Darren will release a two disc, 25-track album on his own label. After selling over 25 million records with Columbia, they parted ways in 2006. I urge you all to take the time to look for this album and support this artist. 'This Delicate Thing We Made' is set to be one of the best releases of the year.

Two of my favorite tracks from this album are, 'Hero' and 'Unlovable.' I vote that they should have been a single! What do you think?

I'm Not Like You... I'm Not Who You Are

For those of you that don't know... Alexander shot to fame as the winner of the first season of German Idol "Deutschland sucht den SuperStar" in 2002. He ended up winning the competition with 70% of the vote.

Alexander has released 3 studio albums. Despite success with his first two albums which both reached #1, his 3rd album which had a much more mature sound failed to see similar success. After only one single which reached #16 and the album peaking at #20 the record label cancelled all further singles and promotion.

Alexander is currently working on a 4th album to be sung completely in German.

This was his last single and a bit of a departure from his previous two albums. A little more mature and grown up. A bit of a rocky edge to it. I love the chorus and how it builds up as it goes along.

This is from his debut album... obviously a lot more POP! This is totally a summer, driving in your car, top down and singing along type song. His 2nd single back in 2003.

Let's Go To The Place Where The Boys Are Pretty...

Anyone remember back in 2000 when you couldn't turn on a radio without hearing "It Goes Around The World... LA LA LA LALA."

Pop music was so much more simple then. We didn't need real lyrics... we were happy with LA's and Ooh's and Dum's or DA BA DEE's.

That's where ATC came in. ATC stood for 'A Touch Of Class' but after they were sued by DJ ATB they started to go by the full name. The debut single 'Around The World' became the most played song in history in Germany, staying at Number 1 there for 6 weeks! The track became an instant hit across Europe and even hit the charts in Canada and the USA.

After their 2nd album failed to create any real success the band decided to split up, but not before releasing 3 singles off that final album!

Their 2nd album was a HUGE improvement over the first album, which relied mostly on songs that were almost identical to 'Around The World.'

The band also will be remembered as one of the Gayest bands ever... almost beating out Alcazar!

So let's all remember the simplicity that was ATC.

There Will Be No Turning Back...

Today I'm going to post another song from an artist that I never would have imagined that I would be listening to... Annie Lennox. Perhaps best known as her role in the 'Eurythmics.'

In 2003 Annie released her 3rd solo album 'Bare' and the first single from that album was 'Pavement Cracks.'

I actually first heard the song as a remix which actually went #1 in the US dance charts. While I wasn't particularly impressed with the remix... I was completely floored when I heard the album version.

The song opens up really simple and you almost think it's going to be a really boring track from an aging washed up 80's singer. About one minute in things start to get interesting. More and more sounds get added as the song goes along, layers and layers get added until the final bridge rockes out before settling down again.

I do think the song could have a bit more umph added to it at the end... but overall this track is a pop masterpiece!

Since finding this track I went back and downloaded some older Annie Lennox singles and found that she has a history of releasing great pop tracks. So I'm including the SPECTACULAR single 'Walking On Broken Glass' for you as well!

Encore...Otra Vez

Darin came in 2nd place in Swedish Idol all the way back in 2004! I am a huge fan of Darin's albums. I actually posted some tracks from his latest album last year. This time I'm going WAY back and am going to post some tracks from his debut album - 'The Anthem' and his 2nd album 'Darin.' All 3 of Darin's albums have hit #1 in Sweden and he's had 8 top 10 singles with 2 hitting number 1!

What I love about Darin is that every one of his albums has gotten better and better. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.

This was the winning song from Swedish Idol 2004. Although Darin didn't win... he still included his version of the track on his album. The track is very "I've just won Idol and am singing a power ballad." The song builds up until it hits a climax at the end and the choir comes in.

Darin - Encore, Otra Vez, One More Time

When I listen to this song it makes me think of being on a boat somewhere, sailing in the middle of the ocean. The song is pretty mellow, but gives him a chance to show off his vocal range.

Darin - Move

This one is pure brilliance! It really set the tone for his 3rd album which is filled with catchy hard hitting tracks like this one.

Darin - Walk The Distance

Not only can he sing a funky dance track... but he can nail a ballad like this. I had a hard time deciding on what my favorite ballad was on his 2nd album, but I decided to post this one. I really like the production on it. Of coarse there is a key change in there as well!

I've been listening to some old songs and although the tracks aren't new... they're great and I still listen to them often and they're just as good as the first time I heard them.

Lets begin with Hanson.

I know we all remember 1997 when Hanson were EVERYWHERE. You couldn't turn on the radio without hearing one of the singles from their debut album "Middle Of Nowhere." Anyone else still remember all the words to MMmBop?

This band has been active from 1992 - 2007 without a break!

I admit I was a HUGE Hanson fan back in the day. Despite being labeled another 'boyband' Hanson had genuine talent. They wrote and performed their own material.

The were rewarded with massive international success! But despite breaking records with their debut album... their record label didn't do much to ensure the bands success. Their debut album was followed up with rapidly released albums such as a Christmas album, a live album, an album of unreleased demo tracks...

Despite the initial success the band did not release a true 2nd album until 2000. But due to poor sales their record label pulled funding for the tour and then dropped the band.

The band decided to release their music independently from then on... starting with the 2004 album 'Underneath.' The album has become one of the all time best selling Independent albums in the USA. The album debuted at #25 in the Billboard 200.

The songs I'm about to post are 2 of my all time favorite Hanson songs.

Lost Without Each Other was the 2nd single from their Independent album 'Underneath.' The song is a fun, upbeat rock track. The chorus is immensely catchy and will have you singing along from the first listen!

A Minute Without You is a track from their debut album. This album was filled with radio friendly tracks that could have easily been singles. This one was my favorite right from the start... it's a shame it was never picked to be a single.

Hanson is another example of what is wrong with the music industry. Before Hanson became independent, Def Jam records turned down over 80 songs from the band... saying they weren't marketable.

The band has just released their 2nd Independent album, you can find it on iTunes.

I recently found out a little trivia fact for you...

What song holds the record for having the longest vocal note held by a singer?

It's held by Morten Harket the lead singer of A-Ha. In 2000 their single 'Summer Moved On' hit the Uk top 40. In the track Morten holds a vocal note for 20.2 seconds; The longest vocal note ever held in a Uk top 40 hit.

This was done without any vocal stretching effects and you can hear him hit the note live at one of their concert appearances.

A-Ha are probably most famous for their huge 80's hit - 'Take On Me,' but suprisingly the band has continued recording to this day and has had moderate success recently in Europe with some of their singles.

I'm actually a big fan of their track 'Did Anyone Approach You.' I love his voice in this one and the way it builds up as it goes along. What do you think?

One of their most recent hits was 'Analogue' which I'm posting for you as well. This track has a great use of piano against a guitar. A-Ha has really shown that they are a talented band and deserve the recognition they've received with their last two albums.

The Day It Rained Forever...

Aurora is a dance act created by 2 english DJ's. The act had their debut back in 1999 with the single "Hear You Calling" and soon exploded in the Uk charts with their follow up single, a cover of Duran Durans 'Ordinary World' which peaked at #5 in the Uk!

Like many dance acts the band has worked with many different vocalists to record their songs. After the band had success with 'Ordinary World' they teamed up with 'Lizzy Pattinson' who became the new full time lead vocalist for Aurora. The band began to work on their debut album and in 2002 released 'Dreaming.'

But the album turned out to be a bit of a suprise. Instead of focusing on the dancey/trance hits that made the group famous, the album was a collection of slower ballad based songs. Unfortunately their further singles failed to set the charts on fire and there wasn't much more heard from the band after the album was released.

The band released further singles in 2003, 2005 and in 2006 each track using a different lead vocalist.

None of the singles have matched the success of their earlier singles. Their last single was in 2006, a cover of the Texas hit 'Summer Son.' It peaked at #82 in the Uk.

Still at once time Aurora was one of my favorite bands to listen to! I find their singles to be extremely catchy and easy to sing along to. Their videos are quite nice to watch at well! Find out for yourself below...

BATTLE OF THE B-Sides!

That's right... today I launch a fun new interactive experience on this blog!

The first ever Battle of the B-sides! B-sides are typically a dumping ground for bad songs that weren't good enough to make it onto an artists album... but sometimes an artist suprises fans with a B-side that is spectacular and in some cases is better than the single itself!

Today I want to celebrate some of these B-sides and challenge you to decide which B-side is the best! I tried to pick a range of tracks that are each a little different from the others but each track is a great tune!

Once again the girls atre pushing the boundaries of pop music and giving us something totally fresh and new! I LOVE IT!

The Sun Shines Brighter

If you keep up to date on your Uk Boybands you'll know who 'Ultra' is.

When the band released their first single back in 1998 - Say You Do, it got to number 11. The band were then suprised to hear that the single went #1 in Italy of all places!

Over the next 2 years the band had several singles hit the top 20 in the Uk, Italy and Spain! Despite being mobbed by over 3000 female fans once... the band maintained that their popularity came from their songs that they helped write and produce.

But as always things changed due to record company politics. When it came time to record their 2nd album in 2000 the band found that everyone that worked for the record label when they had been signed no longer worked for Warner. It seemed that despite selling over 1 million albums, no one at Warner was interested in continuing to release music with 'Ultra.'

Despite other offers from other labels the band was disillusioned with the music industry and the band finally split up in 2001.

3 members of Ultra ended up forming their own music production company and ended up writing songs for Bryan Adams, Kylie Minogue, Liberty X, Phixx and Natasha Bedingfield.

In 2005 the band started spending more time together and decided to release a new album... this time with no record labels to hold them back. In Feb. 2006 the band released their 2nd album 'The Sun Shines Brighter.'

And despite that fact that they no longer grace the covers of teen magazines or have their singles playing non stop on radios... the band is finally making the music they want, their way.

How Do We Sleep While Our Beds Are Burning...

Novaspace had success in Germany and other European countries between 2002-2004. The band was a collaboration between singer Jessica Bohrs and dance producer Felix Gauder. Novaspace had moderate success across Europe and released 2 studio albums and one remix album in their time together.

My all time favorite is their cover of the 1988 classic 'Beds Are Burning.' This is a great track to blast this summer and the video is fun too.

Oh how the mighty fall...

After the 2nd series of 'Pop Idol' in the Uk... runner up contestants Sam and Mark decided to join forces and begin recording together as 'Sam & Mark.' They signed with Simon Fuller and immediately released a beatles cover 'With a Little Help From My Friends' which entered the Uk singles chart at #1! Things were looking bright for the two-some!

The duo released their second single 'The Sun Has Come Your Way' in July 2004. Unfortunately a high chart position did not come their way a 2nd time. The single peaked at a dissapointing #19 and the boys were dropped.

But these boys don't give up. Despite their failure as a recording act, the boys have managed to successfully carve out a career in television hosting various programs in the Uk including TOTP Reloaded, Level Up and their latest show - Do Something Different!

So while we most likely will never have another single from the boys... we'll always have this pop gem which I happened to love!

If you follow Eurovision, you may be familiar with Manual Ortega. After his debut single 'El Amor, La Vida' became a huge hit in Austria, he represented his country at Eurovision with 'Say A Word.'

It turns out his failure at Eurovision didn't stop him... he's gone on to release 3 albums in Austria and is still releasing material today.

My favorite songs from him are the ones from his debut album 'Any Kind Of Love' which you can discover below.

The guitar in this track is very hard hitting... as is the sound of breaking glass that kicks the song off.

I Know It Takes 22 Steps From The Walk To Your Door...

If you like boys that sing sappy songs with guitars you'll like the new single by Australian Idol winner: Damien Leith.

The new single is a little bland... but I really like the lyrics. They're the kind of lyrics I think everyone can relate to...

Now although I haven't fallen for his new single... Damien Leith stole my heart late last year with his debut single - Night Of My Life. The song was number 1 in Australia for 4 weeks and went platinum in it's first week of release!

Calling Angels...

There is a lot of buzz starting over the new BWO double-A side that is being released soon... until then let's look at another band that is often compared to BWO.

Nouveau Riche was a duo of Ulrich & Dominika (Ex- Army Of Lovers) and they released 2 singles back in 2005. Soon after Dominika decided to leave the band.

It wasn't long before it was announced that Camilla Brink would replace her. Their new single 'Angels' and their new album have just been released in Sweden. The album includes new recordings of the first 2 singles and their website makes no mention of the fact that Dominika was once a part of the band.

I don't know if I really like their songs or not... they're ok... but just not as catchy as track from BWO. What do you think?

WOW!

You know when you hear a song and you know from the first 5 seconds that you've just found your new favorite song?!

Well wait until you hear this! It's the German B-side to 'Shine.' I don't know why this wasn't included on their album because it's a sure fire hit. It's like nothing the band has ever done before... which is maybe why it wasn't on the album... it definitely would have stood out from the other tracks.

When bands do songs dedicated to their fans they can sometimes come off as fake or forced... not this one! I was lucky enough to see Take That on their reunion tour last year and they were so cool. They were so grateful to be given the chance to perform for their fans again.

This song deserves so much more than a B-side... It's one of my new favorite songs of the year! Hopefully you agree!

Bengtzing Come Back!

It's no secret that I LOVE Linda Bengtzing. One of the first posts I ever did was devoted to the Swedish songtress!

After performing in Melodifestivalen 2005 & 2006, releasing an amazing Shlagerific album, being nominated for a Swedish Grammy and then hitting #1 earlier this year with 'Varsta Schlagern' it's time that Linda releases a new album!

Swedish Press and my friend PopPosterGirl reported on this earlier this month. Supposedly Linda wants to release a new single, but is having a hard time convincing her record label to release it before her album is ready.

As much as I would love to see her at Melodifestivalen again next year... I think her record label needs to speed things along and get the album released sooner than later! Who's with me?!

For now I'll spend my time blasting her debut album and the few gems that were included on various 'Fame Factory' albums. One of which is posted below with some album tracks!

We'll Keep The Neighbours Awake Too Late...

There is one artist I've been waiting patiently for to release new material. Recently he announced he would even be working with Pop God Max Martin! That got my hopes up even higher!

Then I heard this... Shayne Wards new single - If That's Ok With You.

What the hell did he do?! This has to be the worst single so far this summer. I love that he's trying to do something more upbeat after an album of ballads. The song is definitely trying to be a summer hit, but the song does nothing for his voice. It sounds like he's trying to be an R & B singer or something?! The more I listen to it the more physically ill I get... I think I have to delete the song. If his whole album is full of this crap I will never forgive him!!! This is probably just his way of stopping the constant comparisons to Westlife. Basically his last album was just a cover of every album Westlife has ever done, But I happen to LOVE Westlife!

Hear for yourself and tell me what you think. Just to make up for how crap it is I'll also post some of his old songs to show that once upon a time he was amazing!

I just heard this song and I'm left speechless. The first question I had after it was over is... where has this guy been all my life! He really transformed this song from a fun summer anthem into something special. I think we're all going to hear the name Scott Simons A LOT more in the future!

How Many Times Before We Understand...

The A-Teens started back in 1998 as 'The Abba Teens,' doing covers of ABBA songs. I remember when they came out I HATED them. I don't know what it was but I hated the fact that their whole existence was just doing lame ABBA covers. I spent about a year bashing them!; they were the band I loved to hate.

And that's when it happened. I heard their new single 'Upside Down!' No matter how hard I tried to hate it... it kept getting stuck in my head until I finally cracked under the pressure and bought the single. I kept it hidden from everyone I knew... I thought I could keep it a deep dark secret. But a few months later I saw the video for their next single 'Halfway Around The World.' Before I knew it I was hiding my face as I went to the record store to buy the album 'Teen Spirit.'

It turns out I wasn't the only one that fell for the 4 young Abba loving Swedes. Their debut album was a top ten hit across the globe with their singles hitting top ten in almost every country they were released in. The band even did the impossible and broke into the U.S market!

In 2000 it was announced the band would start releasing original material and 'Upside Down' was their first. The track was a huge success again hitting top ten across the globe. Their album went on to similar success as well.

I find it really interesting that a band as pop based as the A*Teens failed to make any impact in the Uk! Although 'Upside Down' reached #10 back in 2000... 'Halfway Around the World' barely made top 30 and their album failed to make top 75 in 2001. Meanwhile in the U.S their album sold over 500'000 copies.

Despite the failure in the Uk the band continued to sell albums everywhere. In 2001 Disney invited he band to record a song for the 'Princess Diaries' soundtrack. When it was released in Sweden, 'Heartbreak Lullaby' stayed in the charts for over 4 months! The album ended up selling over 1 million copies worldwide.

The band went on to release their final album in 2002. Despite successful singles from that album... sales were not as strong worldwide as their record label had hoped. Sales for their 3rd album peaked at approx. 350'000 copies.

In 2004 after the release of their Greatest Hits album and their final single 'I Promised Myself' the band parted ways and started their own solo projects. The 3 new tracks from their Greatest Hits album showed a maturity that the band had grown into in their 6 years together and I was extremely dissapointed to see the band split up. Although... how long can you go on with a name like The A* Teens.

Watch When I Become Me...

Earlier in the year I was introduced to Anders Johansson over at PopPosterGirls blog. She posted a track 'Is He The One.' The song was stunning, with lyrics and a melody that had you singing along from the first listen.

I was so enthralled by the song that when I was in Sweden I went and bought both of his albums before even listening to them. Unfortunately I found that the rest of the tracks on his albums are nowhere near as good as 'Is He The One.' But still there are one or two songs that do stand out from the rest and I'll post my favorites below.
